BALLYHEIGUE NOTES - 18th August, 2015

COMMUNITY GAMES 2015: What a fantastic conclusion Ballyheigue Community
Games had to finish our year 2015 with such great achievements at The
National Finals in Athlone last weekend. On Sunday afternoon our very own
Shauna Casey took the floor in The Model Making Competition. Every event is
very nerve racking but Shauna was very relaxed and was absolutely thrilled
along with her parents Adrian and Mary and sister Molly when it was
announced she received 2nd place: just brilliant to receive a Silver Medal.
Padraig Woods our Swimmer had a fantastic swim to get through his heat and
onto the semi-finals. Padraig was just unlucky to miss out by 1 place to
get into the final. Well done Padraig and thanks for representing
Ballyheigue and Kerry for us. Trainer Terence Dineen and his seven-soldiers
were busy playing Draughts all weekend. On Saturday morning they had a very
early start and played again Saturday evening. This event was decided on a
points system and yet another province had to be played Sunday morning
where our boys - David O’Sullivan, Adam Dineen, Dara Kearney, Denis Lynch,
Dara Donnelly, Darragh O'Fuairain and Eric Walsh came out with 7 Bronze
Medals. The draughts was a very tough and highly contested event. The
nerves were very bad by the parents who were absolutely thrilled to receive
3rd place. We could not be more proud of all the children and thank
everyone who travelled to Athlone.

ST. MARY’S CHURCH: Please note next Sunday 23rd August is the last Mass in
the Community Centre. On the following Sunday August 30th the Masses on
Sunday in the Church will again be at 9.30am and 11.00am

“PATTERN DAY 2015: As Pattern Day is fast approaching there will be a
meeting of Our Lady’s Well and Grotto Committee on Thursday 27th August at
8.15pm in the Grotto Car Park to ensure that all goes well on September 8th.
We urgently appeal for more stewards to help out. Please hand in you name
to the Presbytery or to any of the Grotto Committee. The success of this
Historical Day is due to the dedicated volunteers down through the years.
Please help out.

“PATTERN DAY” WALKS: The Pattern Day walk from Tralee to Ballyheigue is
well established now. A new idea is now mooted i.e. that two walks be
organised from Tobar na Súl and Killviceda, two ancient monastic sites, to
arrive at St. Mary’s Well & Grotto at 10.30am Pattern Day. Great idea and
I am sure that locals will take up the challenge. We would like a
reaction.

“BALLYHEIGUE PATTERN DAY” APPEAL: If anyone has photographs of the Pattern
Day Grotto, Well or Street please hand them in at the Post Office as soon
as possible, with your name and address for returning to you. They may be
used in a forthcoming publication regarding “Pattern Day”.

MISSION APPEAL: Sr. Bernadette Reynolds, Franciscan Missionaries of Mary,
