BALLYHEIGUE NOTES – 10th September 2014

CHIROPODIST: The chiropodist will be in attendance in the Community Centre,
Ballyheigue on Wednesday 17th September. *Please note change of date.*

BADMINTON – It’s that time of the year again – the new season begins on
Thursday night 11th of September and will continue every Monday and
Thursday night at 8.30pm in the Community Centre, Ballyheigue.

Hope to see all the old members back and new members are also welcome.

COMHALTAS: Enrolment for music lessons & AGM will take place on Tuesday 16th
September in Cuil Mhuire (beside Ardfert Church) at 7:30pm. €55 for 10
lessons plus €6 Comhaltas Membership. Lessons will begin on Monday 29th
September in Ardfert Community Centre. Any queries contact 085-2813879.

THE INAUGURAL ARDFERT HARVEST CYCLE will occur between 10am – 3 pm on Saturday
13th September 2014. All owners and guardians of pets and animals along the
route are asked to ensure that all gates, doors or access points to roads
are closed securely- so the animals cannot access the roads. This will
greatly enhance the safety and enjoyment of the cyclists and the event.
The areas that the event will be covering include: Ardfert, Tubrid,
Abbeydorney, Ballinclogher (Cross), Lerrig, Ballyduff, Causeway,
Ballyheigue (and Kerry Head), Banna Cross, Churchill and Listrim. Your

EOIN CAFFREY a young man going to Calcutta wishes to thank all those who
contributed to Calcutta Collection at Mass in the Community Centre,
Ballyheigue. People were so impressed by him they contributed €650.

GAA LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn at last Saturday night’s GAA
Lotto: 9-11-20-27. The Jackpot of €4,050 was not won. Next week’s Jackpot
will be €4,100. The two €50 winners were Nial Lucey, Dirtane and Ned
Hussey, Marian Park. The €25 winner was Molly Lucid, Tiershanahan.

BARRETT CUP: The Ballyheigue football team were defeated by St. Pats.,
Blennerville in the Barrett Cup semi-final on Friday evening. Score:
Ballyheigue 1-5 and Blennerville 3-7.

KERRY MINOR HURLERS: Congratulations to the Kerry Minor Hurlers who made
it three in-a-row when they beat Meath in Nenagh on Saturday in the
All-Ireland Championship Final. Full time score Kerry 3-18 and Meath
2-15. Well done to two Ballyheigue players – Michael Leane and Brian
Riordan who are now holders of All-Ireland Medals.

UNDER-14: Very well done to the Ballyheigue U-14 hurlers who had a hard
earned victory over St. Brendan’s at Dromakee on Saturday in the North
Kerry Championship final. It was not looking good at half-time when the
score read Ballyheigue 0-1 and St. Brendan’s 3-6, but a storming second
display with goals from Brendan Walsh, Colin Walsh and great points coming
from Nathan Guerin and Kevin Rice. The Ballyheigue boys held out for a
famous win. The ‘Tod Nolan Memorial Shield’ was presented by Shane Nolan to
Vince Casey, the Ballyheigue Captain. Full time score Ballyheigue 4-7 and
St. Brendan’s 4-6. Ballyheigue Panel: Kyle Reidy, Graham Slattery, Vince
Casey (Capt.), Ciarain Casey, Rory Duggan, Darren Quirke, Darren Stack,
Brendan Walsh 3-0, Bryan Sheehan, Nathan Guerin, 0-5, Ricky Hussey,
Wesley Mosk, Colin Walsh 1-1, Jamie Regan, Kevin Rice 0-1. Thomas Stritch,
Padraig Woods, Noel Brassil, Brian Styles, Jamie Lee.

FIXTURE: North Kerry Under-10 Hurling Blitz at Tralee on Saturday at 10 am.

BALLYHEIGUE GAA Club is holding a ‘Clothes Recycling Drive’. Please donate
any unwanted clothes, bed linen, towels, curtains, shoes, bags, belts and
soft toys by dropping them to the Club Rooms on Saturday 13th, 20th, 27th
September and 4th October between 11am and 1pm. Mobile phones also
welcome, but please keep separate. There will also be a trailer for
clothes donations after each Mass in the Church Car Park. If you require
your donations collected please contact Mike (086) 3630467 or any club
officer.

COURSING LOTTO: The following numbers were drawn on Monday 1st September in
the Ballyheigue Coursing club Lotto: 2-16-18-19. No Jackpot winner. The
€50 winner was James Flaherty, C/o Macs. The €25 winners were: Patrick
Clifford, C/o Macs and Darragh Flahive, C/o Pat Joe. Next week’s Jackpot
€2,000.

DEATHS: The death took place during the week of Margaret O’Sullivan (née
Enright), Glenlea and late of Glendahalan. Removal was on Thursday evening
from Hartnett’s Funeral Home to St. Mary’s Church. After Requiem Mass on
Friday 5th September burial was in the Holy Family Cemetery, Ballyheigue.
RIP. Sympathy is extended to her family, relatives and friends.

The death took place of George Lucid, Maulin, Ballyheigue. Removal was on
Saturday evening from Hartnett’s Funeral Home to St. Mary’s Church.
Following Requiem Mass on Sunday 7th September, burial took place in St.
James Cemetery, Ballyheigue. R.I.P. Sympathy is extended to his brothers,
sister, relatives and friends.
